GM Policies
Thank you for choosing to run, submit, or organize an event at Mankato Con. As a Game Master, event organizer, or facilitator, you are a vital part of creating a fun and memorable weekend for our attendees. By submitting or running an event at Mankato Con, you agree to the following policies:
General Expectations
By running an event at Mankato Con, you:
Will follow all venue rules and any posted facility policies.
Will abide by all Mankato Con Attendance Policies and Code of Conduct expectations.
Understand that running an event does not make you an employee, volunteer, or contractor of Mankato Con.
Understand that violations of convention policies may result in consequences, including removal from the convention or future event restrictions.
Agree that your primary goal is to provide a safe, fun, and engaging experience for your players.
Agree to ensure the physical and emotional safety of yourself and your table.
Agree to follow all directions from Mankato Con staff.
All event space is reserved for scheduled, approved events. Unauthorized or “pop-up” events may be removed at Mankato Con’s discretion. If you need space for a late submission or unscheduled event, please contact event staff first—do not attempt to relocate or rearrange rooms on your own.
You are responsible for any materials you bring to your event. Mankato Con is not liable for lost or stolen items. If you have items that require special accommodation, please contact staff in advance.
If for any reason your event cannot run, notify Mankato Con staff immediately so we can cancel it and notify attendees.
Appropriate Games & Content
Events at Mankato Con should always prioritize fun, inclusivity, and comfort for all players.
When submitting an event:
Select the appropriate age rating for the expected audience.
Clearly disclose any adult themes or sensitive material in the event description.
Avoid content designed to shock, disturb, demean, or intentionally unsettle attendees.
The following content is never permitted in Mankato Con events:
Graphic descriptions of sexual content
Sexual violence, references to sexual assault, or depictions of rape
Graphic violence, torture, or extreme cruelty
Detailed depictions of harm to children
Any content that violates the Mankato Con Code of Conduct
Even if such material might be acceptable in a private home game among consenting adults, it is not appropriate for a convention environment.
Violations of these rules may result in immediate event cancellation, removal from the convention without refund, and/or a permanent ban from future Mankato Con events.
Before Your Game
To ensure a smooth experience for you and your players:
Arrive at your assigned table at least 5 minutes before your event begins.
If another group is at your table or if the space is not available, contact staff—do not relocate without approval.
Confirm that each player has a valid event ticket (digital or physical).
If you have open seats, direct ticketless players to Registration or the Games Desk to purchase a ticket.
Make sure you are wearing a valid Mankato Con badge as well.
During Your Game
Ensure all players have visible badges.
Ensure your own badge is visible throughout the event.
Run the game as it was submitted—this includes content, rules system, start/end time, and format. If any changes are needed, contact staff first.
Respect shared materials and surfaces.
If your table includes a wet-erase or Chessex-style mat, only use the provided compatible markers.
If you encounter disruptive behavior, safety concerns, or rule violations, contact the nearest staff member immediately—do not attempt to escalate the situation yourself.
After Your Game
Leave the game area clean and orderly—return chairs, pick up trash, and reset the table as you found it.
Wipe down any provided mats using water and a towel.
Make sure the table number sign is present and visible for the next GM.
Report any spills, damaged furniture, or problems to Mankato Con staff.
